Expanding Access to Justice by LEPs and Bounds: Resources for Limited English Speakers

In partnership with other stakeholders, state court and county law libraries have worked collaboratively to better serve self-represented litigants of Limited English Proficiency (LEPs) and non-English speakers in their communities. This program will showcase two successful translation projects of written materials—court forms and legal information guides—made possible through grant awards and similar funding. Panelists will share their experiences in pursuing grant monies to develop these projects, and will offer a framework to help attendees assess whether the legal information and assistance needs of LEP self-represented litigants and court users are being met in their community. Strategies on how to evaluate the effectiveness of such projects intended to address those needs will also be explored.

Legal aid organizations, non-profits, and librarians who serve court, government, and public law libraries, Native American and Tribal law libraries and courts, and law firm libraries.
