Chief Law Librarian
New York State Unified Court System
New York, New York, United States
Sue Ludington (she/her/hers) has served as Chief Law Librarian for the New York State Unified Court System (UCS) since March 2022. In this role, she oversees the Office of Legal Information, which supports UCS court law libraries statewide and administers reference services to the judiciary, court personnel, and the public. Over the course of just a year, Sue has significantly increased unity among law library staff, and has successfully led UCS leadership to recognize law libraries as important allies in the access to justice movement.
In 2021, Sue moved from Oregon to New York to join her now-husband, a Yonkers native. Prior to that, she spent 3 years as the solo Law Librarian at the Lane County (Eugene, OR) Law Library and 6 years as the Assistant Law Librarian at the Washington County (Hillsboro, OR) Law Library. She earned her MLIS from the University of Washington in 2002 and worked for 10 years in Oregon public libraries, primarily as a teen services librarian. Upon receiving her Paralegal Studies certificate in 2012, Sue transitioned into public law librarianship and, to this day, finds great satisfaction in helping court users navigate the system, learn more about the law, and find solutions to their legal problems.
Outside of work, Sue enjoys hiking, bird watching, puzzles, live music, cheering on the Yankees, and civic participation.
