One of the big concerns for law librarians working with members of the public—whether it is in an academic, court, or public library setting - is unauthorized practice of law. Where is the line between "legal information" and "legal advice"? How far from that line do we stop, in the interest of not crossing it? And who decides how far from the line we stop? Let's talk about where our institutions tell us to stop, where we think we should stop, and what would happen if we crossed the line.
Informal "Discussion Den" chats will be held throughout the conference in addition to regular programs. Designed to be conversational rather than presentational, these 45-minute dialogues are an opportunity to brainstorm, sound off, and share challenges, experiences, and ideas in a smaller, informal setting.
