Real World APIs: Who Is Using Them, and What Are They Doing with Them? (Deep Dive)

Panelists will reunite to present examples of real projects that were implemented at their institutions, share insights into what went right, what went wrong, and how they evaluated the success of their projects. Content will include a non-technical discussion of what Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) are and how they work, how to manage working with internal IT departments, finding and working with contractors, suggestions on how to evaluate vendor APIs, and provide suggestions on making a project successful. The program will also include the results of a survey of AALL member institutions that will measure the popularity and uses of APIs. Attendees will learn from the survey results where their organizations are in the API adoption cycle and be prepared to make recommendations. Attendees are encouraged to bring their project ideas to the session for discussion by the panel of experts.
