Batch Please: Leveraging Batch Record Loading for Integrated Library System Improvements and Enhancing Resource Discovery

Knowing the landscape of library systems, resources, and vendors available for managing batch ingestion of metadata is critical. Librarians with experience across platforms, including institutional repositories, will discuss their favorite tools and processes for leveraging more efficient workflows when batch record loading. Speakers will contribute their collective knowledge, including the pros and cons of batch processing, provide example workflows, explain how this plays into effective resource discovery, and assess existing procedures. Attendees new to batch processing will be better equipped to review their library’s systems and design their ideal workflow.

Target Audience:

This program will be applicable across library environments no matter their staff or collection size. Newer law librarians with an interest in cataloging, systems, electronic resources or technical services skill sets will gain an overview of batch loading. Managers will also benefit, particularly if their library has not yet embraced batch loading or if they supervise librarians who are unaware of the full suite of tools or vendors their system could batch. Law Library directors could use this program to gain insight into the day to day work that many librarians working with their catalog records, systems or electronic resources partake in. Small libraries may find this program particularly useful as they are often strapped both for staff time and resource funding.
