The Law Library as Virtual Hearing Hub

Remote court proceedings have greatly expanded access to court, but they can also create access barriers and due process concerns. Law libraries are uniquely positioned to help self-represented litigants (SRLs) understand how to join and participate in virtual hearings and provide space for participants who do not have access to technology. Hear from two law librarians who have assisted SRLs with preparing for remote proceedings and developed space in their libraries where SRLs can use library computers to appear for hearings. Get template instructions, infographics, and strategize about how your law library can help SRLs in your court community, including creating court kiosks and partnering with other community organizations to ensure technology access.

Target Audience:

All law library professionals will benefit from understanding the barriers that SRLs face in virtual hearings and how law libraries can act as a resource for people participating in virtual hearings. Law librarians can assist people with information and best practices about virtual hearings. Managers and directors can assess a library's particular resources and determine if the library can act as a kiosk to connect users to a virtual hearing or identify community partners where kiosks might be available.
